Exploring art, artists in new exhibit

Welsh artist Bethan Huws and her collection were introduced to the University of Massachusetts community at an opening reception last Wednesday night.

Huws is an award-winning artist who has been featured in solo exhibitions all across Europe since 1989. She was the recipient of the prestigious B.A.C.A. Europe Laureate Prize in 2006. This exhibition is her first in the United States.

This presentation of her collection, which will be housed in the University Gallery until Mar. 29, was preceded by a public conversation between Huws and guest curator Gregory Salzman.

In the answering of Salzman’s questions, Huws revealed some of the inspiration behind her craft as well as the intent with which she creates. She also spoke of her evolution as an artist, saying of the thought behind an early project, “At that stage I didn’t know how to think
