Eric Reeves will receive an honorary degree from Smith College on March 6, in recognition of the work he’s done to alleviate the suffering from the conflict in the Sudan.
“This is a particularly special moment for Smith,” said media relations director Kristen Cole.
It is the first time a sitting faculty member has received an honorary degree from Smith College.
Reeves was chosen for the award by a committee, who opted to give him the degree because of his dedication to the people of Sudan. Reeves has been involved since 1999, and has worked as a consultant to several human rights organizations in the Sudan. He has testified before Congress and wrote several essays and a book on the crisis.
