Statistically eliminated from the playoffs and out of time but full on pride, the Massachusetts football team ended its tough season on a high note early Saturday evening when it downed the Hofstra Pride, 28-14.
Nothing this season came easily for the Minutemen (7-5, 4-4 Colonial Athletic Association), suffering numerous key injuries and losing games that were once within their reach. But the season finally provided some relief for UMass head coach Don Brown and the seniors that know beating the Pride (4-8, 2-6 CAA) and finishing 7-5 is a whole lot better than finishing 6-6.
“You know, it’s a great feeling to win the last game,” Brown said. “A winning season and people are disappointed kind of shows how high the bar is set [at UMass].
“I’m not going to make any excuses [for the season], I’m just glad that we were able to respond
