Massachusetts men’s basketball guard Anthony Gurley sent in paperwork to the National Basketball Association league office to put in his name for the 2010 draft. He had until April 25 to enter.
Gurley was the second leading scorer on the team, averaging 13.6 points per game and tied his career-high in points (24) during the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals against Richmond. The redshirt junior is expected to lead the Minutemen next year, should he choose to pull out of the draft before the May 8 deadline.
He has yet to hire an agent, which allows him to return to school if he doesn’t believe he will be drafted by an NBA team and withdraws his name from the draft before the May 8 deadline.
Gurley was unavailable for comment.
He transferred after his freshman year playing for Wake Forest, where he averaged 6.4 points and 1.6 rebounds.
This season, he had experience being a starter and sixth-man for UMass. He started 13 games and played the entire year. He graduated from Newton North High School in 2006, and led his team to a perfect record, averaging 22 points per game.
There are 103 players who are on the NBA Draft Early Entry list. Eighty of them are college players.

Wow, someone who starts a third of the games for one of the worst UMass basketball teams in recent years thinks he’s NBA material? You sure this isn’t an article that missed the cut for the April 1st edition of The Morning Wood?
