Last Friday, Sept. 24 around 3:20 a.m., officers from the Amherst Police Department responded to Bertucci’s restaurant, located downtown at 51 East Pleasant Street to an alarm going off at the building.
On arrival at the scene, the officers determined that someone had forced their way into the building and noticed that the glass front door to the restaurant had been smashed in.
The officers conducted a search of the building, but found no one inside, according to a Friday release.
The officers then searched around the building and found an individual they believe to be the suspect hiding in nearby bushes. The man, 20-year-old Jamison Lapan of 5 Chatham Circle, Turners Falls, Mass., was placed under arrest for breaking and entering in the nighttime and malicious destruction of property worth over $250.
Lapan, a University of Massachusetts student, was arraigned Friday morning at Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown.
Nothing was found missing from Bertucci’s.
