On October 23 and 24, Phish will make their return to the Mullins Center, having not played a show there since 1995. Both Saturday’s and Sunday’s concerts start at 7:30 p.m. while the doors open at 6:00 p.m. Both shows are sold out, having sold nearly 20,000 tickets in less than 40 minutes.
Phish, best known for their live performances with improvisational music and amazing light shows, play a unique style of music that fuses rock and jam. They have a very dedicated fan base that is known for following the band from show to show, setting up tents and stands outside the arena forming what is known as “Shakedown Street”, where Phish enthusiasts from all over gather to sell food, incense, clothing, and various other merchandise.
Phish, comprised of Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon, John Fishman, and Page McConnell, was orginally formed in 1983 at the University of Vermont. The band stopped playing together in 2004 but famously reunited in March 2009 at the Hampton Coliseum in Virgina. They have been touring regularly even since.
Come Saturday, the UMass campus can look forward to a flurry of activity, and welcome a lot new visitors as well as a lot of good music. Anybody with a ticket is guaranteed to have a good time, while anybody without a ticket should do whatever they can to acquire one.
