In the last two days of the Terrier Invitational, the Massachusetts men’s swimming and diving team tallied two first-place finishes and 14 top-five performances. A majority of the Minutemen success came in the 200 medley relay and the 100-yard backstroke where they finished on top.
UMass ended Friday with 600 points, placing it in fourth behind Yale (800.5), Boston College (712) and Boston University (623.5).
In the 200 medley, swimmers Colin Mulcahy, Timothy Gladyshev, Chris Inglis and Peter Sacco added up a time of 1:33.35 for the Minutemen. Mulcahy, a rising sophomore from Norwell, took first in the 100-yard backstroke as well, finishing with a spectacular time of 50.23.

Each came in right behind their teammate as Luong finished a tick behind the leader with a time of 51.24, while Jennings found himself in fifth with a time of 51.66. Jennings and Luong also contributed to the 200-yard backstroke, taking third and fourth, respectively.
Other key swimmers in the invitational were Michael Glenn, Joey Sbordon and Inglis who all found themselves in two top-five finishes over the two final days of the meet. Glenn, a freshman from Kanas, finished second in the 400 individual medley (4:02.66) and third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.36).

The noteworthy news in the event for UMass was the fact that it broke a total of four school records this weekend, all set by freshman.
The rising underclassman Katie Arnott set two of her own school records on Saturday. Arnott finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:26.35. The native of Suffern, N.Y. was not done making her mark in UMass history.
Next, Arnott broke a record in the 200-yard backstroke, set by Christen Dexter in the 2000-01 season. She clocked in with a time of 2:20.11.
The freshmen would continue to shine when Zoe Judd finished first in the 200-yard freestyle. Judd surpassed Christa Narus’ record of 1:51.04, finishing with a time of 1:50.94. Minutewomen swimmers Amina Meho and Anna Cavanaugh came in second and third, respectively, in the event as well.
The final school record was set in the 400-yard freestyle when the team of Meho, Cavanaugh, Judd and freshman Hannah Markey totaled up a time of 3:28.17, good for second place.
The women’s team also saw more top-five finishes that did not make the school record book. Judd finished in first in the 100 freestyle (51.26) as Meho followed suit with a time of 51.42.
The 200 medley relay of Meho, Arnott, Sarah Kanellas and Judd finished fifth with a time of 1:47.27. Arnott went on to snatch third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.14), while the 800 freestyle relay team of Meho, Downing, Cavanaugh and Judd grabbed third with a time of 7:36.83.
With a week off, the women will get ready to face Northeastern at Joseph Rogers Pool on Dec. 3.
