Tuesday’s scheduled doubleheader between the Massachusetts softball team and Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I., has been postponed to April 30.
The decision was made due to reports of impending inclement weather forecasts over the area. First pitch for Game 1 of the doubleheader on the 30th is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Minutewomen will now look to Friday’s matchup in Philadelphia against Saint Joseph’s to try to end their first losing streak in nearly a month. It’s a two-game set with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday.
After running off a season-high seven-game winning streak last week, UMass (14-19, 8-4 Atlantic 10) dropped both games of Sunday’s doubleheader against George Washington (22-17, 9-3), losing 4-3 in the first game and 8-0 in the second.
The explosive Minutewomen offense that led the team to an impressive 12-1 record over their last 13 games prior to Sunday’s matchup — a pivotal corner-turning stretch of the season after starting out 2-16 — struggled to get anything going against the Colonials.
Outside of the late Game 1 comeback that fell just short with three runs in the seventh inning, UMass had just nine hits in the other 12 innings, including a rough four-hit showing in Game 2, which ended in six innings.
