Slam Jam Fest to highlight AIDS awarness

This year’s annual AIDS Slam Jam fest will be held in the basement of Greenough Dormitory in the Central Living Area on Feb. 23.

The annual event, hosted by the Baker, Chadbourne and Greenough community is a night of entertainment with live musical acts, poetry and guest speakers focusing on AIDS awareness. The Jam Fest was started in 1999 as a way of reminding students that AIDS and HIV were an ongoing struggle for both the campus community and the population at large.

The event strives to provide students with the opportunity to listen to live music and poetry while learning valuable information about the prevention and spread of AIDS.

Also on display at the event will be an AIDS quilt and a number of other forms of artwork done by the student community.

This year’s proceeds from both concessions and a $1 admission fee will go to Between Family and Friends of Springfield, an organization that is helping to support individuals suffering from AIDS or HIV with food, housing and medical support.

Anyone interested in performing at the event can call 546-6648, and poets interested in doing a reading of their material can call 546-5855.
