Like any concentrated city with a population of over 35,000, emergencies and criminal activity do happen in Amherst – even in a setting geared toward higher education.
“Statistically, college campuses are a very safe place to be – compared to other cities and towns our size,” said University of Massachusetts Police Department Director and Chief of Police Barbara O’Connor.
