Weekend Shows

University Productions Concerts’ “Something Every Friday” series continues with a presentation of “I Am Legend,” the 2007 film starring Will Smith as a scientist who is the sole survivor of a plague that ravages the population of New York City. The free screening takes place at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. with an encore on Sunday at 8 p.m. Free popcorn and refreshments will be available.

The Five College Improv Comedy Jam takes place in the Weinstein Auditorium at Smith College. The free event features local short-form improv groups and begins at 8.

Mount Holyoke College hosts an open mic night at 8 p.m. in Blanchard Great Room. The free show will feature performances by local talents in the realm of music, spoken word and more.

Saturday

Acclaimed writer, director, actor and drag-legend Charles Busch will speak in Cole Assembly Room in Converse Hall at Amherst College. The event is free and will be followed by an after party at the Amherst College Rainbow Lounge.

Hampshire College’s Hip-Hop Collective will present a performance titled “La Femme Expression,” a showcase of a variety of female talents from poets to beatboxers to DJs. The event, in honor of women’s “herstory” month, will begin at 9 p.m. and take place in the Red Barn. Tickets are $2 at the door.

Jam-band moe. performs at the Calvin Theater in Northampton. The show begins at 8 p.m. and tickets are $26.50

For all who attend the moe. concert, there will be a free after-party concert in the clubroom of Pearl Street Night Club featuring a performance by The Brew. Admission is free with presentation of the ticket stub. If you do not attend the show at the Calvin, tickets will be $8. The show is set to begin at 10 p.m.

Sunday

At 4 p.m., UMass’s Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band, conducted by Laura Rexroth, perform in the Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for ages 17 and under and senior citizens and $3 for UMass students.
