After years of typical band break ups and member conflict, Colour Revolt hits the stage once again with a sound greater than ever. This time, the band is bringing more than just keyboards and guitars to the show. It’s bringing years of life experience told through dynamic melodies, poetic lyrics and loud, forceful vocals. This indie rock group is coming to shake down the Iron Horse this Saturday, Feb. 12 at 10 p.m. with the support of Fiesta Brava, a local Northampton rock group.
Having jammed together since high school, the band first originated in Jackson, Miss. under the name Foxxe. It soon changed to Fletcher while the members were attending the University of Mississippi. Fletcher released their first full length album, “Friends Don’t Speak” in 2003. Following more band strife, the band name finally changed to Colour Revolt.
The band merges the folk sound of the mid-west with rock influences such as Neil Young to create a unique, powerful sound. Colour Revolt released their first official EP “Makeshift” in 2005 and their first album “Plunder, Beg and Curse” in 2008. Shortly thereafter, Colour Revolt was named the Best New Band from Mississippi by Boston newspaper, “The Phoenix.” However, more internal conflict ensued within the group. In 2010 original members Jesse Coppenbarger (vocalist, guitarist, pianist, harmonicist) and Sean Kirkpatrick (vocalist, guitarist, pianist) overcame the group disrupt and released their sophomore album “The Cradle.” Current members also include Brooks Tipton on keyboard, Patrick Ryan on drums, and Luke White on bass.
After enduring plenty of hardship and strife, Colour Revolt shows no shame. “The Cradle” delivers more emotion and passion than listeners have heard before. The band explores new styles of song writing with a high energy combination of instruments. Colour Revolt’s performance will create a soaring harmony from the head-banging beat of the drum, echoing the emotional pulse of the guitars and driving vocals.
Look out for mind blowing songs such as “8 Years,” “Our Names,” “Mattresses Underwater,” and “She Don’t Talk” at the Iron Horse this Saturday. The indie group brings a whole new meaning to music with their album “The Cradle” with several hidden layers of meaning with every lyric and chord.
The Iron Horse is a smaller venue, but a perfect place to get up close and person with this cool band. Get just an arm’s length away from the Colour Revolt on the floor, or observe the performance from the upstairs balconies. Listen closely to their message as it bounces off the Iron Horse walls and fills the room with an incredible atmosphere.
Colour Revolt will leave New England after Saturday and continue its tour westward back to its roots. The tour includes many free shows, as well as the Conferette Festival in Denton, Texas and the Mission Creek Festival in Iowa City, Iowa.
