For this year’s “Body Politics” coordinator Letisha Harris, sisterhood is a virture.

As a performer in past performances of “Body Politics,” Harris enjoyed the fellowship and the bonds formed through working with the women involved.

“It’s unique and a place where women of color can talk about things that matter to them,” said University of Massachusetts senior Jasmine James, another proud past participant in the “Body Politics” performances. Beginning with an idea by Rani Varghese and Lisa McCarthy, the Women of Color Leadership Network created a platform for women to speak out about issues like social injustice, sexual violence and issues of race.

Those participating in this year’s event range from graduate students like Melissa “Misty” Cranston-Bates from Smith College to UMass senior Debra Moreta. The show consists of monologues and collaborative pieces inspired by each woman’s experiences, writings and feelings.

Viewers will get the chance to see how “brave their peers are,” said Harris, as well as hear stories that may resonate with their experiences. According to Harris, the event will emphasize the experiences of females within minority groups.

The performance will take place in the Campus Center Auditorium on Thursday and Friday night. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the performances will take place at 7 p.m.
