As the saying goes, good things come in threes.

On Sunday, the Massachusetts field hockey team proved it valid as it beat a ranked opponent in overtime for the third time this season.

The Minutewomen (3-1) defeated No. 17 Boston College, 2-1, in overtime after senior forward Nicole Cordero netted a goal 21 seconds into the extra period. Cordero scored the goal after a receiving a pass from senior Kim Young, who dominated the stat sheet with that assist and a goal of her own.

The Eagles (3-1) took initial control of the game in the beginning of the second half when they scored off a rebound.

UMass came fighting back and tied the match at 1-1 at the 61:46 mark when Young scored her aforementioned goal off a rebound shot from Cordero.

UMass coach Carla Tagliente said that her team’s resiliency is what gives them such an advantage in the overtime wins.

“They won’t give up and that is what I love about this group,” Tagliente said.

The Minutewomen will try to build off the victory when they travel to Maryland this Saturday.
