The University of Massachusetts Hospitality and Tourism Management program is hoping to see students “exceed expectations” at today’s 39th- annual HTM Career Day “Exceeding Expectations.”
Held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Campus Center Auditorium, the event will feature 61 businesses and is expected to attract more than 300 of HTM students, up from last year’s roughly 50 businesses and 270 attendees, according to Samantha Nagel, marketing chair of the event.
“It’s a huge event. We work closely with the HTM department, UMass Career Services, Isenberg Career Center and the conference center,” Nagel said.
Companies will have the opportunity to hire students for full time, part time, seasonal or internship positions, according to the HTM website. Attending recruiters come from a variety of backgrounds, including hotel chains, country clubs, restaurants, entertainment groups and travel companies.
There will also be informational panels throughout the day, followed by the Senior Reception at 4:30 p.m. in the Marriot Center.
According to Nagel, UMass HTM Career Day is “the largest student-run HTM Career Day in the northeast.” The entire event is run by a committee of HTM undergraduate students, consisting of 11 students in the fall and 10 students this semester, that have been meeting a few times per week since early September.
Nagel said the event is being funded by last year’s HTM Career Day profits as well as attending costs to recruiters.
Following in the shadow of UMass Career Services’ fourth annual Career Blast two weeks ago, which featured 145 businesses, Nagel said the HTM Career Day is different because it is “specifically put on for HTM students.”
“Anyone can attend, they just have to register,” she added about non-HTM majors.
