First-year University of Massachusetts student Caleb Martin died after sustaining injuries from a car accident.

Martin was from Franklin, Massachusetts, but also lived in Dakar, Senegal. He was a first-year accounting major and part of the Commonwealth Honors College community.

“It is with great sadness that I write today to inform you of the death of Caleb Martin,” stated Dean of Students Cara Appel-Silbaugh in an email sent to UMass students Wednesday. “On behalf of UMass, we extend our deepest condolences to Caleb’s family and friends who are mourning his untimely death.”

The University did not provide any other details on Martin’s death, but urged students to reach out for assistance or direct others as appropriate.
