Apple’s newest toy, the iPad, launched Saturday nationwide and debuted on campus Monday after the University Store reopened from Easter weekend.
According to UStore computer sales associate Greg Manley, a sophomore chemical engineering major, the three iPads available at the store’s demo station have not been left alone for more than 10 minutes at a time since arriving. About half of the 30 iPad’s received over the weekend have sold, he said, and more are en route to the store.
“Monday opened to a flood of people,” including some who lined up in the Campus Center outside the store to get a first peak at the high-tech tablet, said Manley. “People were just frantic about them.”
He said pre-orders for a 3G model, which has not yet hit shelves, have also been popular. No announcement has been made on when that model will be released.
