The psychology internship program that offers three internships to advanced doctoral students yearly at University Health Services’ Center for the Counseling and Psychological Health has been reaccredited through 2018 by the American Psychological Association, according to a press release.
Accreditation ensures that each program meets the APA’s standards and trains the interns in the field. During the program, interns are expected to give short-term therapy for individuals, couples, groups and families as well as provide crisis intervention, according to the release.
To gain accreditation, the program underwent self-assessment and on-site peer reviews.
The seven-year accreditation granted to the University of Massachusetts is the longest term offered by the APA, according to the release. The program has been accredited since 1979.
