A University of Massachusetts student was found dead Wednesday morning in his dorm room, according to University officials.
The student, Jonathan Shaw, was a senior mathematics major from Newton, according to a campus-wide email sent out a 4:26 p.m., Wednesday afternoon.
According to a report from the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Shaw was found in his dorm room in Lewis Hall at 11:49 a.m.
David C. Vaillancourt, Senior Associate Dean of Students, sent out an email Wednesday afternoon informing the campus community of the news and offering several on-campus resources for students, faculty and staff.
“We extend our condolences to [Shaw]’s family and friends and want to affirm our commitment to creating a caring community,” Vaillancourt said in his email.
No additional information was provided regarding the cause of Shaw’s death.
