Hey Gleeks,
It’s been a few weeks since I have blogged. If for some strange reason you can’t tell from this newspaper’s name, the Daily Collegian, it is in fact a college paper, and I am, in fact, a college student who has been thoroughly swamped with homework these past few weeks. Hopefully, it will be a while before that is a valid reason for not blogging again.
The two episodes I missed blogging about were “The Substitute,” and “Furt.” The first of the two was nothing but a filler episode, and an excuse to put Gwyneth Paltrow on the show. While she performed an excellent version of Cee Lo’s Youtube hit, “Forget You.” All that happened was that Mr. Schu gets sick, and an anti-discipline, free-wheeling substitute, Paltrow, takes over for the week. The kids learn to appreciate Mr. Schu, and balah, blah, blah. It’s been done before. “Furt,” however, was one of the better episodes, since the show began. Burt Hummel and Finn’s mom get married. New Directions replaces the traditional, and typically terrible, wedding band. At the same time, Sue Sylvester discovers her true soul mate, herself. So, she decides to not only marry herself, but also act as the priest. Her mother, the mysterious Nazi-hunter we have been hearing about returns to her daughters in the form of the fabulous Carol Burnett (I can still remember my childhood nightmares of her as Ms. Hannigan in the original “Annie” movie). The guys in New Directions (except Finn) pledge their support (and suffer many bumps and bruises) in protecting Kurt from the predatorial Karofsky, who is expelled. By the end of the episode, Finn learns the true meaning of what it is to be a brother, and that, regardless of their parents’ marriage, he always had one Kurt. However, when it is announced that Karofsky is allowed to return, Kurt announces to the club that he is leaving McKinley High for the zero-tolerance for bullying at Dalton Academy.
The latest episode is packed with shocking moments. We discover that the formerly neurotic and anything-but-impulsive Emma went to Vegas over the weekend and married Carl. What the heck?! There are some things you don’t mess with, and Will and Emma is one of them. Take note, Ryan Murphy.
When Rachel loses her and Finn’s solos to Sam and Quinn, diva barely begins to describe the attitude she takes. Shoved aside by New Directions, Rachel finds a friend in Kurt, now a member of the competing show choir, the Dalton Warblers. He has trouble fitting in at the all-boys school, so the two find solace in music and their similarly lonesome states. Things only get worse for Rachel when she reveals to Finn that she hooked up with Puck. The combination of the events teaches Rachel that she will not always be the star and always get her way. We’ll see how long that lasts.
What did not happen is Kurt and Blaine getting together. In fact, Blaine seems to be taking a mentor-like role in Kurt’s life, instead. This is not okay, by any means. When we first saw Blaine and the Warblers singing “Teenage Dream,” everyone was just as love-struck as Kurt, and now nothing. All I can say is that there better be some mistletoe action for Kurt and Blaine on next week’s Christmas special.
…and on to the Of The Weeks
Moment of the Week
Sorry guys, but you are not getting one from me. You really expect me to pick? That is so not going to happen. The whole episode was moment after moment. If you think one moment stood out, though, post away!
Song of the Week
As someone who watched “Dirty Dancing” 14 times in the first week that I saw it (I was out of school sick for a week), I have to vote for “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” The song is iconic, and they managed to reinvent it beautifully, without straying too far from the original. Faithful, yet creative, it is exactly what the music on the show should be.
The good news is that we will be graced with one extra episode before the mid-season break, the Christmas special. We will see what is to come for the members of New Directions, when the holidays are in the air
Here is this week’s episode:

For those of you who share Rachel and Puck’s religion, Judaism (also the religion of yours truly), happy Channukkah! To everyone else, have a great week!
