Fall is among us and the unpredictable Massachusetts weather can make it difficult to keep up with the latest trends for the season.

Throughout 2023, social media has had a great impact on recent fashion, presenting a variety of trends to incorporate into your next fall outfit. Shifting away from bold, patterned pieces, the fashion world has traveled down a new route this year. Minimalism has taken over the fashion world making neutral colors and everyday basics a crucial part of your fall wardrobe this season. Here are a few style choices that will elevate your autumn style.

Neutrals

Neutral colors go with anything.

Brown, white, gray, black, cream and beige are just a few colors that have been popular this year. The queen of neutrals and basics, Hailey Bieber, has flaunted her comfy but classy attire over the past few years. According to Voguemagazine, Hailey’s go-to outfits for fall include oversized wool trench coats with a pair of baggy jeans. Hailey strays away from bright colors as neutrals portray the effortless look that she aims for.

Many neutrals are versatile. A white t-shirt or camisole that you wore this summer can be perfectly incorporated into a fall outfit. Keeping it casual for a walk to class? A light-colored crew neck layered on top of a white t-shirt with your favorite pair of jeans is ideal for an effortless, yet trendy look.

One of my favorite trends for the season is a denim maxi skirt. The skirt can be paired with a cozy sweater or elevated with a blazer.

Leather

Leather can be worn in a variety of ways to enhance your next fall outfit. Leather is the perfect choice for achieving a mysterious but chic aesthetic. Leather jackets are essential to keeping warm and feeling stylish. Additionally, leather insulates and holds heat, even on the coldest days of fall.

Leather flight and bomber jackets have become popular in the latest trends and can be paired with jeans or a mini-skirt. Go further and try a leather trench coat over a simple baby tee with a pair of jeans.

American actress, model, and singer Zoë Kravitz is widely known for her effortlessly chic street style. Her incorporation of leather with more comfortable articles of clothing, such as joggers and sweatshirts, has inspired audiences to stay cozy with an edge for the upcoming season.

Lace

Layered lace tops have become popular in the fashion world. Lace presents an expensive, simplistic look without overdoing an outfit.

My favorite way to incorporate lace into my everyday fall outfits is with a loosely fitted lace top over a basic white camisole. Lace is popular in achieving the boho chic aesthetic, which has made a comeback in recent years.

Other lace pieces to accentuate a fall outfit may include a lace skirt or dress. Not entirely feeling the lace vibe? Try smaller detailed lace with a lace-trimmed top or blouse.

Sweaters

Sweater weather is here and better than ever! Sweaters have evolved with various styles, such as chunky, cropped cardigans and sweater dresses in recent years. One of the newest, and my favorite, sweater trends are cropped cardigan sweaters. These sweaters are the perfect touch to a fall outfit – although I would not recommend wearing them on a colder fall day, as they are porous and breathable.

Chunky sweaters have been extremely popular as well. Oversized knit sweaters have swept the fashion industry for many years. This fall, keep the tradition alive and feel your coziest in a snug, oversized sweater.

Maxi Dresses

Nothing screams minimalism more than a maxi dress. It’s a sophisticated, yet simplistic approach on an everyday fall outfit. A long sleeve maxi dress alone is suitable for the perfect fall outfit. Too simple for you? Try adding some chunky jewelry or a chained belt. You can wear a thin strapped maxi dress with a cardigan or sweater layered over it.

For a more casual look, I recommend a simple pair of sneakers. Do you want to feel more luxurious? Try a low, stiletto heel and walk around with confidence! Maxi dresses can be worn casually or elegantly.

Branching out and opening up to new trends may seem nerve-racking at first. Applying these trends is easier than it appears. Broaden your horizons, take the next step and try something new. Feel your best, walk around with confidence and explore the newest styles of the 2023 fall season by incorporating these five trends into your next outfit.
