Two car-related crimes were committed between Friday night and Saturday morning in Lot 49 near Orchard Hill Drive, according to a crime alert issued by University of Massachusetts Police Department on Sunday afternoon.
Both cars were accessed through unlocked doors or open windows. One, accessed through an open window, was stolen using a spare key left in the car and later located in another parking lot. The other car was accessed through an unlocked door and left in place, but the owner found that personal items including a laptop computer had been taken from inside.
UMPD has asked that any information related to these crimes be sent to Officer David Ortiz at (413) 545-2121, the anonymous tip line at (413) 577-TIPS (8477) or reported using the UMPD anonymous witness form.
UMPD recommends that community members lock all doors and close all windows, even if they will only be away from cars for a short time, not to leave valuables in their cars, and to register valuables with UMPD’s Project Protect.
